Currently we have been experiencing some technical posting difficulties with posts to the blog, involving five stiches, a plate of glass and garage. There have been many exciting events occuring in the past week or so. Room 8 won the Melville Intermediate Inter Class Touch Competition defeated Room 13 2-0 in the final. (Congratulations to Room 12 who won the Y8 competition). Today the teachers take on the All Star Students at Lunchtime, although Mr Webb cannot play due to the hand injury he has. We also farewell our Thai students Cartoon and Nair who have been with us for the past two weeks. This is our second Slideshow comparing Thailand and New Zealand.

Sammo from Room 6 was visiting us last week, he went with Robert and Justin and created this slideshow from around school, the season is changing to Winter so Sammo thought that he'd show everyone how things are starting to change around Melville Intermediate School!
Currently we have two students from Thailand in our classroom for two weeks, who are departing on Thursday. They've been learning more English while at the same time teaching our own students some Thai. This video is focussing on teaching our students to speak Thai and also there is some bonus footage of the students showing a skill that they learnt, using Rakau sticks!

Enviro Schools Movie - Mural and Pots from myles webb on Vimeo.
As part of Enviro Schools Melville Intermediate is lucky enough to have magnificent school gardens. One of our on going projects at the moment is to create a totem pole representing each of the classrooms at Melville Intermediate. The pole is being made out of clay pots. Each classroom has two students that are designing the pots for display in the garden. Samm, Fuiki and Rachael produced this video about the pots production.

This is Nathalie and Cartoon 'Learn to Speak Thai' Lesson One, Draft One!
Currently at Melville Intermediate School we are very fortunate to be hosting students from another country. Already we have had visits from Japan (twice) and now we have a group of students from Thailand in class. 1. During the holidays we received a visit from the students of Mrs Trefz Boys Classroom in Memphis, USA. You are going to visit thier classroom site, and find a piece of work and return the favour by leaving them a comment, remember the commenting rules of our class and school first names only.
2. We are going to be talking later in the week with students from the Ripple Effect in Canada. You will need to visit their classroom and leave a comment that includes two of the five questions about Canada that you wrote in your ICT book yesterday.
3. Visit Mrs Lofton's Class and listen to their voicethread about their class in the USA.
4. Miss Ale's Classroom in Argentina. We are going to be talking to them later in this week or early this week. You need to log onto thier classroom site and leave them a comment about a piece of work that you have viewed. This must be constructive and include a suggestion for the student/piece of work.
You can visit these classrooms in any order but you must carry out the specific tasks at each one.

This is a cultural performance from the Melville Intermediate CPA Group from 2005! The tapes for this show have only just been made available to the school, thanks to Mrs Stewart who looked after them! Therefore Melville Intermediate is making them available from the start of Term Two with details of how you can get your copy in the school Newsletter.
This video shows highlights from the Inter-Intermediate School Touch Competition in 2010. Melville Intermediate is one of 12 schools eligible to compete in this competition which also includes: Fairfield Intermdiate, Peachgrove Intermediate, Maeroa Intermediate, St Andrews Middle School, Cambridge Intermediate, Matamata Intermediate, Morrinsville Intermediate, Te Awamutu Intermediate, Tokoroa Intermediate and Berkely Middle School. This is the game against Berkley School who are in the Black/Blue uniforms. Both teams were looking strong going into the game, which as with most of the games in this tournament was extremely tight due to the quality of the teams competing.

One of my favourite, favourite blogs around the world is Mrs Yollis Classroom Blog from California It always interests me to see what new wonderful work they are putting up, and always is a source of great ideas and inspiration to me. Currently while our students are on holidays Mrs Yollis classroom is preparing for Earth Day on April 22nd, and as part of that they're going paperless in the classroom for the day! We'll be doing the same, using Mrs Yollis classroom as our inspiration, her class have created a Wallwisher for pledges, which you can add to by clicking here. You can also have a look at the links to Earth Day from her classroom site. Wonderful.
This video is of our Cultural Performing Arts (CPA) show from 2005, part of the Kapa Haka part of the show. The footage has been recently located and is being made available for students and supports of Melville Intermediate School for the first time. If you would like a full copy of this DVD (there's two that are an hour long each) please contact Mr Webb when school starts again. You are also able to order our 2009 CPA Show on DVD (from the School Hall prior to our group departure for Australia) or the very first CPA show from 2004! During these school holidays one of the tasks that has been done is to go through some of our Cultural Performing Arts Shows form the past and convert them to DVD. One of the biggest surprises is that for the first time ever we managed to find the very first CPA show from 2004! The whole show is over an hour long and is going to be made available from School if anyone wants a copy of it (as a DVD). We believe its the first time that it has been released, and there's some brief highlights from it here! If you would like to order a copy of this show we will be putting details of this in the first school newsletter of Term 2.

At the end of each Term Melville Intermediate School has a 'Positive' Draw where students who have been positive throughout the term are rewarded by the opportunity to claim a prize from the table. This is a major established event that has been happening for many years, Lana and Benita from Room 8 took these photographs of the table from the last day of school.
