Melville Intermediate - Nathan H's Term One Recount

Hi my name is Nathan I am writing a recount on the first term at Melville Intermediate School 2013. When they called the names for the classrooms I was glad I got Mr.Webb as my teacher again.

As we progressed through the term we had modules and tech. My module was with Whaea Lyndon we practiced hitting the ball with a tennis racket. My tech was food we watched a safety video about how to be safe in the kitchen. When it came to the first P.E session we played indoor cricket. At interval I usually just played soccer on the field I stayed defence because I hurt my leg in indoor cricket. In week 4-5 the Makuhari Junior High School Japanese students came to school and stayed for a week and a half, for the farewell assembly I had to film the whole thing it was fun. Every two weeks we go to the library. I usually issue 2 books and read both of them I recently became a librarian so I issue and return books. Just on Monday we had the Science Road Show I went to it, it was fun there was a skeleton riding a bicycle. I am happy that it is only the first term because I am looking forward to the rest of the year!

Peachgrove Intermediate Vs. Te Awamutu Intermediate

On Tuesday 19th March 2013 Melville Intermediate hosted the 2013 Waikato Inter Intermediate Touch Finals.  Our Girls team didn't make the finals but two incredibly strong teams did, Te Awamutu Intermediate and Peachgrove Intermediate.   It couldn't have been a better final as the two top teams battled it out.   The half time score was nil all, with both teams scoring once in the second half.  That left sudden death to decide the winners for 2013 and Reitu from Room Five was present with camera and recording the event.  From Swarbrick Park in Hamilton.

Melville Intermediate - Josh's Term One Overview

We did heaps of display work this term. So much that we are running out of wall! Camp was busy it was fun and we did so many activities. As for tests my favourite subjects are reading and spelling Mr Webb said that my spelling test had the best result in the classJ.  The Asttle tests were nerve wracking. The Fonterra science road show was cool as, they did so many things that I never thought possible. They had a Hovercraft! And a skeleton “riding a bike” the skeletons feet were attached to the pedals and there was a pole connecting the skeletons bike to another bike that someone rides and when it is powered it powers the skeletons bike. Somehow they managed to make air go through a brick. For tech I had woodwork and I finished my box first. But Owen was nowhere near finishing on the second to last day but he finished in a nick of time with my help. My second tech is food but I only had one lesson yet. For modules I have had P.E. twice once with Whaea Lyndon and once with Mr Willis. I have done inquiry once and I am now doing food module as well as tech! I have been learning to make videos and upload them on the class blog. That is pretty much this term. I can’t wait for term 2!!!

Melville Intermediate - Chloe Reviews Term One

So... This we have done much display work there is only a little bit of wall space and leaving not much left.  So most of the stuff is stars... Camp was fun and we played the best things ever.  It would be one of the best camps I've ever been on so far the games we played were spotlight, archery, water slide, go
Karts, Trolleys, Burma Trail and even the best dinner ever. As for the tests we have done: spelling, math and reading.   I don’t really like those tests they are hard. And for the, gym that is some cool games in there like Pirates, Non stop cricket and Rounders they were pretty good games. As pe that is the same as before and but we play out side and we played Longball. This was fun but I hope we do more in term 2.

Melville Intermediate - Icis Term One Recount

As part of our last written task for term one students of Room Five had to create a written recount that reviewed the term.  Students were working on these in the last week of school.  We will be returning to class on Monday 6th May 2013 as we are currently on the first week of our two week end of term one break for the year.

In the 3rd week of school Melville got told in the assembly that there would be a thing called modules  starting up.   I was in the library and P.E  with Whaea Lyndon.  I’m now in inquiry and TV studio at the same time.  TV studio is with Mr Bell.

My tech was wood work and made a jewellery box for some one special to you and in now in food technology with Mrs Brown.
We got a letter about 3  weeks before camp about camp.  We went to camp on the 6th
weeks of school.   We went for 3 days and 2 nights.  The first  day we stayed in our cabins and made our beds then had a look around and then had lunch.

The next day me had breakfast and did our next activity and I was on Go karts and then we got called for lunch we had a wrap and fruit then I was on the waka ama.  We went for 2 hours the stopped at the gardens where people swim and call it the cliff.  When we got back to the camp grounds it was dinner after dinner we went on a bush walk where we had to hold a rope and people would give  us a fright and after that we had a hot shower.  The next day we had breakfast and had free time and then it was time to go and when I got back every thing was back to the same.

Melville Intermediate - PES Student Blogs

Josephine from Point England School
Its the holidays in New Zealand, our students are not due back in the classroom until Monday, May 6th. However in the meantime there's some other great sites to check out. Mr Webb's been active online and amazed by the work that's going on, in the holidays, from a couple of students from Point England School in Auckland. There's an entire school of wonderful blogs at work up there, we've been very lucky to have visitors from their pages and plenty of comments. We'd recommend that if you are looking for a great students site that you check out the blogs from Josephine.  She's made over a hundred posts this term, and there's a great variety of writing about many different topics.  There wouldn't be many class pages that post a hundred times a term, so this is a fantastic effort.  Another thing is to have a look at her posts during the holiday, she's working independently in her own time to publish to her blog.  Amazing motivation, dedication and effort.  Well worth a look.

Sela from Point England School
Another great indivdual site that you can visit is Sela's  page.  Again like Josephine, Sela is posting in the school holidays in her own time.  She's written about a variety of topics and events that have occurred Netball, the Holidays (which are boring because nothing is happening apparently!) and suggestions about great learning sites that you can visit.

If your a student from Room Five at Melville Intermediate School, reading this in the holidays you can claim a special, edible prize at the start of Term Two.  You will need to visit either of the pages listed above and leave a comment (you can claim the prize twice if you leave two comments) and follow the regular comment writing procedure.

On the last day of School for 2013 we had performances from both 2013 school Rock Bands. Going on second was a hard act to follow but for Kustom they did so with an amazing effort performing Rolling in the Deep by Adele. Kustom consisted of Kyla and Makere on lead vocals, Raven on electric gituar, Qayne on Bass, Liam on drums and Davy-Grace on Keyboards. Filmed at Melville Intermediate on Friday 19th April 2013 by Bianca.

Melville Intermediate - Thank you all so much for Lunch Help!

Thanks to everyone that has contributed so far to the lunch project that we are currently engaged in. We've had the classroom councillors in Room Five looking at lunch order forms and canteen lists from around the world. We've used them to compare to our existing menu and we're currently rewriting the existing menu to include some of the new options that we've discovered from around the world and New Zealand.  We've got an display at the moment on the windows of Room Five of all of the lunch orders that we've currently received... so students can currently see orders from the likes of Mokoia Intermediate (Rotorua), Balmoral School (Auckland)... more to come on this issue shortly... a reminder to all our loyal viewers and visitors that tomorrow is the last day of school for term one in New Zealand.  We will be back two weeks from then for the start of Term Two... This slideshow shows some of the work that currently going on with our students... you can see our outside display, and also copies of the Melville Intermediate School Lunch Order Forms that our class attempted to re-write. Students had to remove items that they really disliked, and replace those items and add any new items.

Melville Vs. Te Awamutu April 16th 2013 from myles webb on Vimeo.

The Melville Intermediate Girls team have been playing on Tuesday nights in the Waikato Basketball Competition. The team has been unbeaten over the past eight weeks defeating a mixture of club teams and school teams of mixed gender. Last week Melville Intermediate were victorious in their Semi-Finals against the Flyers Sparks team, and this week in the pool final took on Te Awamut Intermediates Girls team. Last time these teams meet in pool play Melville won, but only by seven points (in a forty minute game). In the final it was close in the first quarter with Melville taking a 6-4 lead. Second quarter Melville tightened their defence to force a defensive shut out and take a 19-4 half time lead. Te Awamutu reducded it to a thirteen point deficit at the end of the third quarter, 18 to 31, before Melville pulled away in the last quarter of the match to win 51-24.

Melville Intermediate - Fonterra Science Roadshow Bones

Skeleton - Fonterra Science Road Show 2013 from myles webb on Vimeo.

The skeleton riding the bike is actually attached to a bike next to it which someone rides and it makes the skeletons bike move. The skeletons feet are attached to the pedals so the skeleton is moving in the same motion as the person powering it. It is really cool the first time i saw it i went closer because I could not see the person powering it and I though it was creepy.

Melville Intermediate - Fonterra Science Roadshow

Yesterday Melville Intermediate were lucky enough to host the Fonterra Science Roadshow.  This was a wonderful event for the students who attended, and we had Josh from Room Five present with a camera to record some of the events and the amazing activities and experiements that the students were involved in.  One of the activities was the students chance to ride a hovercraft, which Josh filmed on Monday 15th April 2013 in the Melville Intermediate School Hall.

Hovercraft - Fonterra Science Road Show 2013 from myles webb on Vimeo.

The hovercraft looked really cool and had this blue tarpish thing underneath it. It had scooter handlebars and its engine was a modified leafblover attached through a tube to power it. It was high compressed air filling insde the tarpish bottom which made it float.

Fonterra science road show on PhotoPeach
These video illustrate our school Canteen (Tuck Shop, Cafe) in action.  Its part of our series of work on lunches and the choices available.  This video shows Elizabeth and Jamie from Room Five, two of the volunteer students at Melville Intermediate School who run the school Canteen at lunchtime under the supervision of the staff.

MIS School Canteen Part One 2013 from myles webb on Vimeo.

In class Mr. Webb told us we needed to brainstorm video ideas. In 2 minutes I had already thought of an idea and ahd finished up making a mini storyboard for it. A couple days later, my group had done interviews for the video and a little bit of the tour for the canteen. We have also made a video showing Jamie and I serving people in the canteen. :) please enjoy both of them. By the way, once we have finished the whole video we will puut it up on the blog so you can see it all together as one. :)

The second video is of students who serve in the Canteen talking about the experience and what they have done while serving their.

Melville Intermediate - Fonterra Science Roadshow

The Fonterra Science Roadshow is a museum really. But it travels to different schools and sets up in there school for a cool science show. This year when I went I didnt have the same good time as last year. It was okay but I had better fun last year. I think the best part was the little shows they had at the start and end of when we got there. They explained heaps I didnt know and lots of cool stuff happened. I enjoyed the shows heaps.

I really enjoyed the science road show it showed me things I have not seen before. My 2 favourite parts were the rocket and the potatoe gun I really think it is worth 6 dollars! And the hover craft was awesome.
